KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
The chain-lock catches the door as I slowly open it. "Hello?"
"Hello, Miss Maya LaBower?"
"Yes, can I help you?"
"I am Agent Brookes, and this is Detective Redding," they flash their badges. Criminal Investigations... Why would they be here? What do they want with me? "May we come in? We have a few questions for you."
"Umm... S-sure, J-just a moment." I unlock the door quickly, dumb-founded of why they came here. "Come in, take a seat. What can I do for you gentlement?"
"Where were you at 9 o'clock last night?"
"I was here, with my friends... Can I ask why?"
"Your friends? What are there names?"
"Well, there's Neko, and Perty, and Naga... Here, follow me. I'll let you meet them."
"They're still here?"
"Of course. They are my only family. They live with me." I lead them to my room. My plushies welcome the agents with their normal stare. "These are my friends." The agents stare at me suspiciously. "I'm sorry, why did you say you were questioning me?"
"We didn't say, but there had been a report that a scream was heard from this particular apartment last night."
"What? Is this about the missing children? Because if it is, I had nothing to do with it!"
"Miss, we're going to have to search your home."
"No! Why do you suspect me? I've done nothing wrong!"
"If you won't allow us to search voluntarily, we will be coming back with a search warrant."
"It's my private property! You have no right to be here! Leave, NOW!"
"We'll be back, Miss Labowe4r. And we will search your home next time." I slam the door shut behind them.
I suppose this only made me more suspicious. But I couldn't let them search my apartment. They could find out my secret... the reason why my family left me. It's the only thing I can cling onto now. If I don't have that, I'll have nothing. This is the reason why I never have guests over, why I don't have any real friends. Well, except for one.
